Pro's

1. Quite bright up to say about a 80" screen size, any bigger you will lose the sweet spot.
2. Sound is reasonably load for a small speaker (you can add external speakers or headphones if required)
3. Tiny but not quite pocket size, great for traveling.
4. battery life is good at around 1.5 hours (drops to 55 lumens when on battery).
5. Plays most formats of video..
6. This will power an external HDD from the USB so no external power required.

Cons

1. Fan is quite noisy for a small projector but if your watching a movie this wont be an issue.
2. Wont play Audio on many movies i have and my camcorder AVCHD wont play sound either. (you can use an HDMI cable which will fix this).

Excellent home cinema projector
Summary - I wanted to get started on home cinema, and have found this more than good enough!

Before buying this projector i read some reviews of various other DLP projectors and more expensive LCD units. I also tested a sightly more expensive (than this) DLP but although the colours and picture were good, during slow panning shots, the flicker/judder was just too much for me.

So I bought the Epson and hooked it up to my PS3, with sound routed from the PS3 to an old micro system via an optical audio cable. The projector doesn't seem to offer audio out but has a small speaker set up, which I've just used for testing sound and won't bother with otherwise. I'm projecting onto a blank off-white wall.

i've had it for a few days now and played blu ray, dvd, video games and tv on demand through it, and I am very pleased with the results all round, in a day-lit room or with the lights down in the evening. I'm sure you can spend a lot more and get something...

We got this projector with some apprehension, but we were pleasently surprised.

I purchased it for business use to use when doing presentions to clients at their offices via USB stick presentation (web design company) its quite a 'snazzy' unit and everyone always comments on it!

The control panel is easy to use and very bright and vivid in colour so it shows the capabilities from when you first turn it on. The whole device is easy to navigate and the buttons are a bit like and xbox controller so easy to use for any age.

Bluray Image good, fan obtrusive
I bought this projector a short while ago and have found it to be more than acceptable for projecting DVD and Bluray discs to a huge screen about 3m across the other side of the room. It was extremely easy to set up and I was projecting within 10 minutes of opening the box. There are a good number of ports to add HDMI x2(for Blueray), VGA (for pc)and RGB component. All very good. Unfortunately it begins to lose marks from here onwards. It is difficult to set the pc so that the desktop is readable (lose one star), but viewing family photos and BBCi/4OD is fine, although some tweaking is required on the picture settings to get an optimum picture.

The sound from the unit is ample but my preferred method was to hook up surround sound. There inlies the real problem. The fan is so obtrusive that you need to have surround so high to be heard over the top of it.(I can't find anywhere the DBa level output - my opinion i s that it is on a par if not higher with above average talking...

This is a great wee projector from Philips. Despite knowing its dimensions i was surprised by how small it was. It throws out a bright clear picture and is very simple to use with my Mac laptop.

However I must make it clear that I have only used it at night with the lights off, with 30 lumens (respectable for a portable projector) it would struggle in light conditions.

Also the tripod it comes with can be tricky to balance, i would recommend getting a Joby Gorillapod Original - Black

All in all a great way of carrying around the equivalent of a big screen tv on trips away from home!

Incredible value for money
I have just upgraded from a Sanyo Z5 (720p) LCD projector to this Optoma HD230x (Full HD 1080p) DLP version. The picture quality, brightness and colour that this projector offers for the price tag is an absolute steal. I was a little concerned that the 2300 lumens would be too bright compared to the Z5, which is 1100 lumens, but it adds to a far greater viewing experience. You can watch movies with a couple of sidelights on, or in complete darkness. I did not find the brightness to be an issue, nor the rainbow effect.
I am quite surprised at the difference in image quality between 720p and 1080p. I did not think the full HD would be much of an improvement, but it makes quite a difference when you play a 1080p Blu-ray disc. The HD230x has two hdmi v1.3 (Deep Colour) inputs, and again, I have noticed quite a difference. The colour is rich and vibrant with no colour bleed what so ever.

For audio I used a minirig connected directly to the macbook (although I have no reason to be believe it wouldn't work fine if I connected the Optoma to the minirig directly, providing that the HDMI connection used supports audio. I don't think mine does, but I didn't try it).

For watching DVDs in a darkened room, this thing is spectacular, and you can get a real cinematic experience. We projected the DVD onto the wall, and managed to a get a very bright, clear image that was a good 8 feet diagonally. It's really quite incredible for such a tiny device.

There is some motion fringing from the DLP, and you can just about make out a cheesecloth effect, but I'm hyper-sensitive to both of these, and neither caused an issue for me.

great piece of kit
absolutely love it. was a bit unsure to how good it would be after reading reviews about needing complete darkeness to see anything it projected. but as it was mainly to be used for watching movies from PS3 or Epad and now from a portable dvd player its good, as we normally watch movies in a dimmed down room.

Big Screen TV in your pocket
This is a great wee projector from Philips. Despite knowing its dimensions i was surprised by how small it was. It throws out a bright clear picture and is very simple to use with my Mac laptop.

However I must make it clear that I have only used it at night with the lights off, with 30 lumens (respectable for a portable projector) it would struggle in light conditions.

Also the tripod it comes with can be tricky to balance, i would recommend getting a Joby Gorillapod Original - Black

All in all a great way of carrying around the equivalent of a big screen tv on trips away from home!

Great for the money
For the price, this projector deliver's in every way shape and form !

I already owned an Optoma Projector, the now discontinued HD700X. I was very happy with my projector but I invested in the Optoma 3D-XL adaptor and was not happy with the quality of the picture. Due to the 3D technology of right now one of the draw back's is the effect that the shutter glasses have on the brightness of a projected 3D image.

Given that the 700x only has a lumen value of 1300 combined with 2 year's of usage and the shading effect of the glasses and the fact that the 700x was never really built for 3D (enabled via firmware update) it produced a very dull image and was not good enough.

I researched newer projectors on the market and considered the all in one 3D projector's. But, I decided that since I still had the 3D adaptor I figured I could spend less but I still wanted a higher lumen value projector.

It ca me down to the older HD600x or this LV version...

I bought this projector for my children as a Birthday present and given the price of the box was not expecting a huge amaount.

However, I was suprised just how bright and vivid the colours were. Sure it's not HD but that didn't seem to stop the kids enjoyment as we mainly use it for gaming but I would definately consider using it for the football as well.
